If you or someone you love has been recently arrested on charges of soliciting a minor for sex in Florida, you may feel completely alone, isolated and confused.
However, it may give you some solace to learn that authorities arrest and charge people with similar crimes routinely in Florida and beyond. Consider, for instance, two recent arrests in the nearby state of South Carolina. A 53-year old man from Aynor faces one count of soliciting a minor for sex, thanks to investigative work done by the Internet Crimes Against Children Taskforce and the Sumter Police Force. Hugh Abbott Rucker set out on the afternoon of September 29 to Shaw Air Force Base to engage in what he allegedly thought would be a sexual encounter with a minor female. Instead, police waiting for him arrested him and hit him with a count of criminal solicitation of a minor. That's a very serious charge -- a felony that can lead to 10 years behind bars as well as inclusion in the Sex Offender Registry.
Meanwhile, a few weeks earlier, a man from the nearby town of Bluffton, 47-year-old Jeff Kruse, allegedly tried to solicit sex from a 13-year-old girl at H.E. Mccracken Middle School. Investigators say that Kruse had contacted the 13-year-old on her iPhone using an app called ooVoo. Investigators got a search warrant and then searched Kruse’s apartment, collecting a desktop, computer, an iPad, a tablet computer, two cellphones, and two laptops, which authorities took to a local Sheriff’s Office Forensic Services Laboratory.
Who knows what evidence the authorities will find in either of these cases? What will happen to these two men? Only time will tell.
